I am getting a static shock every time I get out of my wifes car. Not a little one either, my damn arm went numb for about 5 minutes last time. It doesn't seem to matter whether it goes on a short trip or a long trip. Every time I get shocked.
It could be static from your pants to the seat when you slide out. My new seat in my 72 did that. Spray of that static guard on the seat and see if it works.
I too have been anoid by the sharp spark when getting out of my new F150 SCREW. This is the worst of any vehicle I have ever had. I have had 72 chev, 99 Dakota, 99 Ranger, 01 Ram, Jeep, Volvo V70, etc. The DOdge Ram was the first vehicle I have ever noticed his problem with. Zap .. ouch. Sold the vehicle last month (no more pain) and got a 2006 F150 w/no bed liner, and double zap. And it is getting worse as the winter approaches. Now that I have read the articles on fueling, I am more concerned than in pain. I worked at Ford R&D in 1978-1981 and I recall several events with plastic tanks sparking on test stands and techs getting burned. Surely all of our fine engineers have a fix for this painful and dangerous phenomeon. Do the ugly straps really work? Why are some vehicles more prone to his than others (Ford F150 and Dodge RAM)? Should truck manufacturers put an anti-static plate on the dash? I thouht I left my troubles behind when I got rid of the Dodge, but the Ford is worse.
This thread is a bit old, however, stick around someone will be by shortly to answer your question.

Most of the time it's you who are charged, and you are being discharged through the truck when you touch it. Try to find something metal to hang onto before you slide across the seat, and see if it goes away.
There are a lot of factors. You will notice that it is much worse when the humidity is very low. The material of the upholstery, the material of your clothes too. Here at Tahoe it is a constant problem. I just discharge myself as I get out of the vehicle by putting the heel of my hand on the metal part of the door as I put my foot down on the pavement. It's such a habit now I don't even think about it.
I remember as a kid seeing heavy trucks with bits of chain dragging on the ground. I'm not sure it was for static but it sure made a lot of sparks.
