How can I.......

Reduce Static Electricity In My Apartment?

I have a nasty static build up in my apartment. every time I walk & touch something I get a shock of a lifetime, Including my computer & walls.

It does this when I have shoes on & off.

We use a spray from ZEP called X-290 at work. The floor is carpet and the panels are steel, so static can get really bad. This spray works very well, and does not stain the carpet.

Another inexpensive way is,if you have floor registers, put a bowl of water on a few of them,it will help put humidity in the air.

Humidifiers will work then. I may have to spring the few buck & buy one.

KT,
Unforutunatly I don't have floor registers. I got those darn ole wall heaters from a boiler, can't remember the technical term for them.

Hot Water.

Their are 16 Apartments in this building & the old gezer of a care taker runs those boilers full blast because he is cold. It is 50 degrees outside & I have all my windows open & patio door open just to remain comfortable.

I sure wish I had control of my own heat.

Not much humidity in Pequot Lakes, MN. You would think that MN would have plenty of moisture, If you can find some it will help.

Tim your correct.

There isn't much for humidity up here. I think it might have something to do with those boilers.

Humidifier. Low cost solutions are putting a pan of water on your stove and leave it on real low or you can plug in one of those vaporizers from time to time (add a timer maybe).

Just out of curiosity, what is the average humidity up there.
Here in NM it is 20% we can see at times of hard rain 80% and it drops within hours to 32, then one to normal.

Maryland has a lot of humidity and it sucks in the summer.

Sears probably has a nice six gallon belt type humidifier for about $100.00. It will last for years.
