I have a new 04 F250 and everytime I get out of the truck I get shocked. Not a little shock either, I can see a blue arc jump from the truck to my hand as I reach for the door to shut it. Is this common or is there a fix?
My most recent '04 F-350 with PSD does the same thing. Everyone who gets out of the vehicle gets shocked. Doesn't happen when getting into the truck though.
I don't know if it's common or not but I have an 03 f250 and the same thing happens to me. ONLY me though, when my wife rides with me, it never happens to her. Everyone in my family thinks I'm nuts cuz it never happens to them. It gets to the point where I don't want to shut my door.
Forgot the mention, that it doesn't do it with my other '04 F-350 with V10 that I bought in October. Both are same models, same year, different engines, built about 6 months apart.
Both of my trucks have leather seats, I don't think leather should generate static electricity. I did install rubber floor mats also, but these shouldn't generate static either.
We wear mukluks, they're more comfortable than boots and no need for wool socks in them. We having a heat wave today at 50°F and my igloo is melting. If I don't figure out this static issue, I might go back to using my dogsled.
Touch a piece of your trucks body while exiting, keep touching until both feet are on the ground. I've gotten into the habit of doing this because I was getting shocked every time I exited my truck! I grab ahold of the 'locking' edge of my door, it also keeps the wind from blowing it into another car (or mailbox, or house, or girlfriend, etc etc)!!
BTW. . .I've noticed a lot of static coming from the door armrest rather than the seats. I'm not extremely hairy, but I have felt the hair on my arm being pulled by static on many occassions.
odd, I also have leather seats and a PSD. I only get shocked when exiting the truck after I have started the engine. I will have to try touching the metal body as I get out.
One thing I have been thinking about is that I never touch anything except the nonmetal parts of the truck till my feet hit the ground since the truck is so big. In my F150 I could not avoid touching metal hence I did not get shocked.
lol, everyone that sees me thinks I am nuts because when I get out I always jump from getting shocked.
Twin Tritons I'm sure this isn't the same issue but I did notice in the dead of our winter, read that your spring, whenever my Siberian made four of five laps from the front seat to the back, usually in the time it took to shut the door, we'd throw a spark when he touched me
