just hang in there, dont miss no appointments to docs, keep going, u dont want to show a gap in medical care if your in pain. i almost lost my leg in a accident and broke pelvis and some other nice things, took years to settle and was hardly worth the effort, they did pay my medical tho, thankfully since i had 100k in bills i couldnt pay because i just graduated from college.
Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you are getting better and glad you got a new Ex. One reason the airbags did not activate is they are triggered by an inertia switch that activates under a certain amount of G-forces in a certain direction. Due to size you may have transferred enough force on impact to the other vehicle to not expose your Ex to the G-force necessary to trigger your airbags.
I saw that one of the vendors online listed a new Ex frame for around $2500. with the apparant weakness in the frame when it takes a hit on the frame eyes this might be an option to save some Excursions.

maybe we should brace up the front end more. its designed to collapse so maybe we can redesign it to be more stout.

I actually plan on getting a welder/fabricator friend of mine design some plates for the collapse points to make it unbreakable! Of course it will mean accidents hurt the passengers more but I doubt it will be much more considering the size and weight of a diesel 4x4 X with 35's and a 250lb front bumper!

The crumple zones are there for a reason... they dissipate the force. its gotta go somewhere.. if not in the crumple zones then its gonna bend the body and frame at some other point. A heavier bumper will help though as it ties the two sides of the frame together at the front... like getting hit in the rear , the receiver hitch assembly ties the frame members together and often it can look like no damage after hit but put it on a frame machine and you will find the frame all bent out of whack futher up the vehicle. a modern 4 wheel alignment machine will easily pick up a lot of frame damage too just by showing how far out the front vs rear angles are...
its a idea i toyed with since getting an excursion. i dont want to plow with it, but our boss undercarrage(sp) kits really add alot of extra steel up front. plus if i added the wiring i'd have a backup truck even though the f-250 has never let me down. just an idea to play with.
Glad you're ok. I had a similar situation with my Ex. Luckily Iron Bull bumper (see photo in my garage) saved the day. I'm a believer in a sturdy bumper. When I removed the bumper the frame rail had a 1/2 inch deflection at the end. I hammered it straight and re attached the bumper. My airbags didn't deploy either. I got about 3 feet in the the trunk of the other car didn't stop till I started moving the rear axle of the car. No one hurt, but a real heart racer.
well tomorrow marks the one year since this happened. its been a wild ride i'll tell you! i'm back in a good place though finally. it may not have been a really bad wreck, but boy did it have its cause and effects on my life and the life of my family.
i'm glad me and the other lady were not hurt any worse then we were. although to this day i still get some next pain that comes and goes randomly that i never had before. otherwise i think i'm pretty well healed up. plus i'm glad i was able to get a newer/lower mile excursion but it was not the way i wanted top do it! lol
i have to work tomorrow, i'm debating on taking the same route as that morning. since going back to work 10-3-11 i have not driven that same route. there are 3 ways i can take and i've avoided taking that way. we'll see how i feel in the morning about it.
luckly the black 2000 was able to go on and save another excursion from the junk pile. this i'm happy about just sad it had to be totaled.
