Bronco Four-Door: Mid-Sized SUV, Large Enough for Camping NBA Players
With up to 83 cubic feet of rear cargo area, Ford says the Bronco four-door “offers more volume with the second-row seats folded down than the four-door Jeep Wrangler.”
We’ve still got a few more months to wait before the 2021 Ford Bronco officially starts production and lands on dealership lots. But, with order banks rumored to be opening up soon, Ford’s Built Wild (<– Trademarked!) hype juggernaut just keeps on chugging. Case in point, today Ford revealed cargo volume for both the Bronco four-door and two-door models. But like any off-roading-aimed vehicle, the goal isn’t just to haul stuff.
Ford wants you to know how great it will be to camp in one!
Bronco Four-Door Sleeping Area
Pushing the front seats forward and folding down the rear bench gives Bronco four-door owners 21 square feet of interior cargo area. That’s good enough for two 6-foot, 6-inches tall persons to sleep in a space that’s 3-feet 7-inches wide (with 10 more inches for elbows near the rear doors). But, if you happen to be 7-feet, 6-inches — aka as tall as the third tallest NBA players of all time — you could also sleep diagonally and keep everything closed. (FYI, the maximum interior length for the two-door Bronco is 46.1 inches, so bring a tent, I guess.)
Need more room still?
No problem. Simply order the optional slide-out tailgate, which will push diagonal sleeping length to 8-feet, 9-inches. But if you need this option, you’ll have to wait as it won’t be available until late 2021.
“We spent a lot of time engaging in the outdoors with off-road enthusiasts and understood Bronco had to elevate the off-road camping experience with cleverness and comfort,” said Bill Mangan, Bronco chief interior designer. “So we made sure our four-door models could accommodate in-car camping and we followed it with best in class overall openness with the top removed so campers can enjoy spectacular nighttime views.”
Speaking of which, Ford also pointed out that dropping the Bronco four-door SUV’s optional hard top or standard soft top reveals 13.3 square feet of nighttime views.
So as long as you don’t mind waking up covered in dew, let the celestial heavens be your nightlights.
Bronco Cargo Options
Ford says the Bronco four-door “offers more volume with the second-row seats folded down than the four-door Jeep Wrangler.” Numerically speaking, this means 83 cubic feet with the soft top, or 77.6 cubic feet with the optional hard top. If you’re more of a classicalist and you buy a two-door Bronco, expect 52.3 cubic-feet of cargo area with the second-row seats folded down.
But interior cargo space is only just the beginning. Ford wants you to buy a boat-load of Bronco accessories and — you guessed it — many of them have been designed for rooftop cargo haulin’. Head over to the Bronco build & price configurator for the full list, but you can outfit most Broncos with a plethora of Yakima carriers and tents and all sorts of handy accessories… All of which can be ordered and financed when you purchase your Bronco, and installed by your local dealership.
