Amazing Custom Bronco Shatters World Record at Barrett-Jackson Auction
Hammering for nearly $200k, a classic Bronco built for SEMA raises the proverbial bar for Ford’s rugged SUV.
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, it wasn’t immediately clear if or when we might see another vehicle auction take place. Many wondered if they would happen at all, or what degree of success they might enjoy. But if Barrett-Jackson’s online-only July auction is any indication, classic vehicle buyers are as enthusiastic as ever, and more than willing to spend their money virtually. Take this insanely gorgeous 1976 Ford Bronco, for example.
Lot #148 set a new world auction record, in fact, selling for an eye-watering $195,250. That’s an incredible sum of money for an old Bronco, but not terribly surprising. Given the fact that demand for Ford’s rugged SUV has been skyrocketing in recent years, coupled with the unveiling of the all-new 2021 model, one could argue that there’s never been a better time to sell a Bronco than now.
For what it’s worth, this ’76 is certainly a high-dollar build. Originally constructed for SEMA, it’s essentially brand new, from top to bottom. The Bronco rides on an RS4R chassis from Roadster Shop, for starters. That gives it an independent front suspension, with 12 inches of travel and a triangulated trailing arm rear with 13 inches of travel. Fox 2.5-inch coilovers and twin-bypass shocks further aid its off-road capability. Baer 6-piston brakes help slow it down in a hurry, with 15-inch rotors up front and 14-inchers in the rear.
