Which Fuel Pump?

Replacing the fuel pump and noticed differences between the new one and the one I pulled off.

The old pump has "190M40801" stamped on the housing and the new one has "6523 1612". The parts store said that the new pump is a replacement for the old one. The new pump arm is slightly shorter than the old one. Also, the "hump" one the new pump arm is more pronounced than the old one. The motor is a 312 but I'm unsure of the year. If memory serves me correctly, I was told it probably came from a 1958-or so Mercury car.
Can I use this pump?

Going off of memory, the new one looks correct. I can check tonight.

The pumps sometimes come with a card with the applications listed. If FE's (and Y-Blocks) are listed, then it should have the correct arm shape.
The old one looks like it is for a small block and that will barely work, if it works at all, with a Y.

I agree with above post. The old pump is not the origional. I have a 292 in a 1964 ford f250 and the stock pump looks just like your new pump.

I'm glad you pointed that out and saved me the embarrassment of trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Thank you
