Fuel pump question

Hey guys, I need your professional opinion on this: I have purchased a new fuel pump for $45.50. A rebuild kit cost $36.00, go figure. Any way, its for a v8 239 flatty, of course. I want to use the original pump cause its got the stock number and A/C on top. Can I take the insides out of the new and put it into the old pump w/o ruining it? Thanks in advance.Ralph.

That is what I did on my 51 Flat 6, the pump they gave me at Shucks was for the 52 Overhead 6. I didn't realize it was wrong till I pulled off the old one. I was out in a field working to get the Flat 6 running and decided to put the Diaphragm in the original housing. That was 6 years ago and the same pump is still running on that engine with no problems. It actually worked out well because the pump for the Flathead was about double the price I paid for the overhead pump.

The new pump may not be an exact replica of the original, i.e., diaphragm may be a different diameter, different number of screws, etc. If they appear to match, it's worth a try. Or you could run the new pump and save the old one for restoration later.

Thanks for the input guys. The new pump looks cheap like it was made in China or somewhere else. My Grandpa and Dad would roll over in their graves if a part from China was put on this truck. Here I thought I was ole school.
