Fuel Pump Problem

I have a 1954 F-100 with a 223 engine.The fuel pump went bad and I replaced it. It would not pump fuel so I took it off and compared the old to the new. The arm that goes to the cam is not at the same angle and does not touch the camshaft. The old arm's has a lesser angle and it does ride on the camshaft.
I thought maybe the new pump could be boxed wrong so I ordered another one . It was the same way. The pump arm does not make contact to the cam. Any help would be nice.

I had a similar problem with the 46 engine in my 51. On it there is a pin that holds the arm on. I punched it out and put the old arm on the new pump.

My original (?) pump's diaphragm was shot, and so a ordered a replacement from my local auto parts store. The pump they provided works fine. I even was able to use the glass bowl from my old pump with it--maintaining the cool original look--which was important to me. (LOL). Unfortunately I don't know off hand what the brand name of my replacement pump is. I could check on Monday if you would like to know. Good luck with your project.
