need some trans advice

I have the 2000 f350 SD and the OD went out about 2 months ago.. I was able to drive it in drive with no problems until the other day. I was going about 50mph and all the sudden the truck ;lost it's momentum and had no drive left. I pulled the transfer case and tranny and took the oil pan off. What should the next step be?? any Ideas on what could have gone out

People usually purchase a upgraded valve body from John Woods or Brian's Truck Stop or BTS. If BTS rebuilds it.....they will give a lifetime warranty and it is close to 5000$ Sorry to hear about your issue. Where are you located. John Woods is mostly West coast and BTS is East coast.

Something mechanical broke inside the trans. If it were still in the truck I could help diagnose what broke, but no matter what it is the answer is the same. It has to be rebuilt or replaced. A new valve body isn't going to help at all.

BTS is top of the list, but the local stealership can put in an HD4R100 that is no slouch for less money: $3500 (tranny only) after the core return.

At idle how much pressure is at the test port? How much pressure in drive at stall speed?

Yes, tear the trans down. It should be obvious what's wrong.

Diagnosing this in the truck would have really been an academic question anyway. No matter what the diagnosis was the solution is take the trans out, tear it down, and rebuild it. Something mechanical broke inside. Does it really matter WHAT broke before the teardown?

start saving your pennies.......Definitely upgrade as much as you can afford with a new transmission. It's money well spent if you plan on keeping the truck!

Tear it down and find out what failed. What is the point of trying to guess what broke?

gonna start tearing it down today...Is it possiblee to do the rebuild on my own with regular tools or will I need to have specialty tools? Is there a certain transmission book I can buy that would be beneficial?

Buy a manual at www.atsg.com. You can do it without special tools, but they make it easier.
