Recalibrating the Lie-O-Meter

Does anyone know how to recalibrate the lie-o-meter (aka. Fuel mileage meter)? Mine is optimistically off by as much as 2.5 mpg by the time Im half way through a tank.

Go to “Engineering test menu”. Find “AFE Bias”. Replace1000 Number with the Number from the Formula: : Calc MPG / Display MPG x1000=nnnn

For Lariat and up 8 inch Display:
Engine off. Press and hold OK Button on the left side of the steering Wheel. Press push start Button only (Not Brake Pedal) to turn to Accessory Mode. Once Message “Accessory Mode” appears press the Brake Pedal and turn the Engine on. Engineering Test Modeappears instantly. Release OK Button immediately.

This is what I did (it's posted in the fuel tank thread):
start with engine off , ignition off.
press ok button on steering wheel and hold.
turn ignition on. No start.
when engineering mode appears, toggle using the arrows to the screen that has the AFE bias. (Press the down button and it should be the first screen) It will have the 1000/ and a mpg.
toggle left or right to adjust the bias.
Press hold to save.

According to the source: "Bias is actual MPG divided by truck's estimated MPG multiplied by 1000. In my case, fuel tank is set at 58 (FORSCAN mod). Bias is 13.5 (actual) divided by 15.2 (Truck estimate)= .888157 multiplied by 1000= 888."

I found that this was off and adjusted up until I was within .1 MPG on city. Towing was off a bit more mut always in favor of just a little less than actual MPG (meaning I had more reserve).

So if I went with bigger tires I should adjust AFE higher than 1000?

Why would you do that? This isn’t a speedometer calibration tool. Get your speedometer right, then adjust the fuel efficiency calculation.

Even if it were possible to attain higher MPG with larger tires, how would you calculate the percentage difference between the lie-o-meter readings and hand-calculated (actual) MPG readings? To use the formula copied/pasted below, you need both hand-calculted (actual) MPG readings to compare against the lie-o-meter readings to obtain the percentage difference ... regardless of tire size or gear ratios. Merry Christmas!

That makes sense. How do I adjust my speedometer and odometer now that I have 5% larger circumference tires? The truck assumes it travels 104” for every wheel rotation when it’s traveling 110”

You need to use FORscan to adjust the tire diameter. There's a huge FORscan thread here that details everything.

Ordered a ScanTool OBDLink MX Bluetooth on Amazon. Now to register and download the software. I’ll need my work laptop. We only have Macs at home.

I found on the spread sheet that I will be able to set the tire size to 285/75R18. This is almost right for a 35X12.5R20.
