Question About the 1990, it says my braking system is for 10,000-14,001 lbs....and mine was never a completed vehicle(cab & Chassis when she rolled off the factory floor, I tracked down the canadian owner who first bought her , his phone number was in the Original Manual, along with figures for when he bought it when he traded his 1971 F-100 XD!) So my question is, are the braking systems more heavy duty for the F-350 vs. the F-250's???

 

It depends on what drivetrain the trucks came with. If you compare a '90 F250 and 350, there isn't much physical difference between them. The components are the nearly the same.
But, there are were several different axles in the earlier trucks with multiple brake size options. Your F250 may not be optioned with the HD components.

But legally, the F350 has a higher braking capacity than the F250.

I know the F350 has bigger brakes and are meant for heavy service cause thats what the canadian who bought in 1990 said, it was a cab & chassis.... he put a box on it 9 years later before he sold it....it had a flatbbed on it(why can't I find an IDI around w/flatbed!!!)

 

I did better than that silly thing, I sent an email to Ford, and requested a factory Build sheet for all my Fords


Now I know the exact options they were ordered with, the exact date they were made, etc.

I don't know about yours, but my 93 F350 cab & chassis has bigger brakes on the rear. They're 12.125" dia. by 3.5" wide. F250s are 12.0" dia. x 3" wide.

 

does requesting the factory build sheet cost anything? i would be interested in that.

 

I'm interested too. I found the build sheet under the seat when I was swapping it out, but it was rust stained and torn up from being under the seat springs for 20+ years. I still have it but can't read half the info.

 

x4 on the Build sheet, I found the one for the 1990, but it was in the same condition. I just did this for beginning IDI owners who want to get an idea of what their truck was spec'd to when it left the factory.

In your email, give all your internet contact info, and saying your requesting a Built Sheet, give 'em your VIN's.


Then they'll reply saying they can't help you with your request, but they'll forward it to someone who can help, and your build sheet will arrive in your mail within 4-6 weeks.

Worked twice for me.
