Hey guy's new to the forum but not new to dents. I worked in a Ford shop for 20 years. I am looking at a 1978 f350 4x2 and I have decoded all of the info on the data plate from the fordification site and all looked right except the rear axle code. It is a 36A. I know from lurking for awhile that not all the info from that site is correct. Maybe ND or Mike can decode this rear axle for me, thank's.
Thanks Mike, my name is Todd and the A was throwing me off but after I posted this I went back and rechecked my look up and verified that all was as I suspected. It is a 1978 f350 scab ranger xlt, air, tilt, cruise, flip out rear windows, race track chrome, 2 tone brown and tan, 460. It needs alittle work but has no rust and very little dents. I have some not so good cell phone pics but I won't post those. I have to go get it yet, 700 miles away, I will when I get it back home. Thank's again
Fordification's 1973/79 VIN/Warranty Plate decode charts have multiple errors and omissions. They claim info is from the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog. It ain't!
It's from the POS Red Book sold in book stores, that's been an abomination since day one.

That is ABSOLUTELY incorrect! ALL VIN decoding data came from the '73-'79 Ford Light Trucks Master Parts Catalog, dated Oct. '79 with Apr. '80 changes.

At least three members have used your decode charts recently, the info was wrong, wrong, wrong. The info cannot have come from the '73/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog because some of it is related ONLY to Passenger Cars.
One example: 460 VIN engine code: A = 460 ~ Passenger Cars only / J = 460 ~ F100/350 & Econoline only.
There's no A code listed in the truck parts catalog for a 460, so where did you get it from?

Question answered in above-linked thread. I'm not going to clutter up the OP's thread with our discussion.
