I need some assistance. I finally picked up my 1965 F350 dump on Saturday. The warranty plate list the rear axle code as a "23". I can only locate a decoder for a 1967 which indicates on that year truck the axle would have been a Dana 70 with a 5.13 ratio. Are there any numbers on the axle housing to verify the ratio. I also have a 1966 F350 with a Napco conversion package that I would like to swap to the 1965. The 1966 doesn't have a warranty plate, so I'm at a lost as to what rear axle it has. So I'm hoping it has some casting numbers that will determine what rear axle it has. I was hoping to avoid swapping out the rear axles. Thanks John
Is there still a axle code tag on the either the front or rear of the axle; should be on drivers side bolted on one of the center housing / plate bolts. If not (What are the bolt head size on the center housing). And is it with a plate cover or the center section seems to un-bolt towards the front?
Thanks Numberdummy for the assistance. That what I thought was under my truck. As I said in my first post, I have another F-350 it's a 66 model that doesn't have it's warranty plate. I have located a casting number on the back side of the rear axle that I believe reads 030788. Does this mean anything? I still trying to determine if both axles are the same.
Thanks,
John

The Ford rear axle tag on Dana axles of this vintage is (was) under two of the bolts (located on the passenger side) that retains the inspection cover to the housing.
Do not be surprised if the tag is missing. Thoughtless people removed it, forget to replace it when they re-installed the inspection cover.
There are no codes or numbers stamped/marked on the housing inre to the ratio.
Without the Warranty Plate, without the tag, there is no way to determine what the ratio is, unless you turn the driveshaft, counting its revolutions inre to one complete turn of the right rear wheel.
1966 F350 Dana 70 available axle ratios: 3.73-1 / 4.10-1 / 4.56-1 / 4.83-1 / 4.88-1 / 5.13-1 / 5.87-1
