Need Axle Identification

Hi everyone. I just picked up a 1979 F-250 Ranger with the axle code 22x. Dose anyone know which axle this is?

Axle code 22 is a Dana 61 with a 3.07 ratio. The same axle I have. X is probably no PS but I am not sure. My truck is a 22 J.

Thanks for the help Torque1st. Forgive me, but what is the dana 61, I have never heard of that axle before.

X means Power steering with adjustable column (tilt) on a certain size axle rating (3750 ) ?

X was new for 1979.

The Dana 61 is what Ford called the "Mileage Maker" axle for these trucks. It has heavier case than the Dana 60, looks more like a Dana 70. It was designed to produce lower numeric ratios that those available on the D-60 or 70 for better fuel mileage. Many people don't like them because they want high ratios to run gigantic tires and do not care about fuel consumption. The D-61 is a valuable axle and will grow in value as fuel prices rise. Many D-60 parts will fit the axle also. There is a code on the axle that will help with identifying parts if needed.
