RE RING KITS?

Searched for topics and seeking advice....97 psd motor purchased and compression tested with a dead #7,other cylinders had varied levels of psi ranging from 35-180.Considering a Re Ring kit with oil pump and doing all this from the bottom end with the crankshaft being removed and dropping the pistons through the bottom.Would the heads and top end be able to handle this?

um well you are gonna need more than a re-ring with those numbers. Compression should be around 400 psi cranking. Maybe you meant to put 350-180. But you may well likely end up needing pistons and cylinder work too. Ford offers rebuild kits for around $1000 with pistons, bearings, gaskets and what not.

$300 with acessories,as a spare for the goodies, only considering from when removing the pan and looking up into cylinder walls and they still have the cross hatching appearing very good condiditon.Might retest compression again although the highest seemed to be in the 180psi ,was hopeing for a bent lift rod and they are quite straight.

Compression test results for submittal and upon recommendations will trust in guideance from here.Cyl #1 140psi,Cyl#2 140psi,Cyl #3 190psi,Cyl#4 210 psi,Cyl #5 150 psi,Cyl #6 260 psi,Cyl#7 DEAD,Cyl #8 250 psi.I;m aware that 400 psi is spec so would a rering be a vaible consideration?Thanks again to everyone here,Ron

Your gonna have to tear it down and do some measuring on the cylinders and pistons before you can decide that. My gut tells me that a rering will not be a good option over a complete bore and overhaul. Also how do the valve and valve seats look?

Things are much better than expected, found that the #7 piston and rings intact with evidence of an open valve being the compression loss. This is the rearmost valve towards the passenger firewall. The valve was 1/16th from sealing ,hence slightly bent pushrod.Head appears to have excellent seals as well as guides although will reconfirm at the local head shop.Yet to measure cylinders ,have to find a good instruments for this. Thanks again,Ron
