7.3L Oil Cooler O-Rings

I know this has been done to death and I used the instructions in the tech folder to do mine already. I used the doorman o-ring kit and it has leaked from the first cold day. Is this an issue with the doorman o-rings or should I be looking for other issues? I'd hate to do the job again and end up with a leaking oil cooler.

Looking at online reviews, it appears the gasket on the filter end may not be quite a good a fit as it should be, but that seems to be the only gripe I could find. Just didn't want to leave you hanging on a response. I have never rebuilt my cooler, but the OEM kit is sitting in a drawer...Good luck and let us know what you find.

I used OEM gaskets on mine when I rebuilt it. Have not had any problems, but it doesn't get that cold down here either. I did not take the front cooler mount off. I used the Diesel-tech Ron method.

When I did mine it was much easier to put together than I though it would be. 23F seems to be the magic number anything below that and the oil pours out.

I used a cheap eBay kit when I did mine, as my stock setup would start leaking when it got below 20* out, and leak untell the vehicle warmed up. Mine didn't slide back together all that easy, had to hit it with a rubber hammer to get it seated all the way.

If it's leaking past the o rings it's possible that you damaged one a little bit.

For me, anything O-ring related and I usually buy from Ford 7.3 Diesel Engine O-rings and Plug Gaskets or from Clay at Riffraff.

Sorry to say but Dorman products will constantly let you down. There is a reason the are so cheap and straight out of China. Go OEM and you won't have to do it again. Here is a link to the kit I use and is the best price I can find on OE.

Dieselorings has the set cheaper (I bought mine from him), AND the shipping is usually priced much more fairly (in my personal experience with both). Bob is super fast on shipping his items out as well.

Looks like this was a bad case of trying to save $30 and having to do the job a second time. Lesson learned.
