I'm still not sure about the rear area where the tailgate will go, ie: hinge area, and where the gate will seat to the walls. You have any pics of how you did that area ?
I don't know if I posted any of that info on this site or not. I may have shown the hinging of my tailgate in a previous thread. My tailgate closes inside the bedsides. I used the low tech seat belt buckles to latch and also locate the tailgate in the closed position. I'll post a few pics of the hinge and the latches. Might not be your style, but will give you something to think about.

I used a metal bushing that I picked up at a local tractor supply for the pivot in the tailgate.

Inside the bedside, I drilled and tapped holes that pass into the 2x2 stake pockets and mounted this part of the hinge.

I thought about adding some sort of jamb, but finally decided that I liked the seat belt latch since it stopped the gate at the proper position and it was locked.

I intend to remake the hinge in stainless and polish it up and use stainless bolts to mount it. Also plan to make stainless folding tailgate stays to hold it in the open position.

I hope I haven't made this confusing. I can easily take more pictures if you need them. The fact that I built the tailgate may screw up the direction you may be wanting to go. If you need more specific info just let me know.

Drew,
Thanks, the pics will be a great help to me.
I'am planning on building my own gate as well, do you have any more pics of your gate during the build ?

I thought I had posted this some time ago...........try this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ailgating.html

You might try searching this forum for all my postings, I may have put something on here about the latches also. I have posted info in so many different forums, I don't always remember where I've put it. Senior moments I guess.

I guess I kinda quit posting here since a lot of the members seem to lean toward the purist and my truck is a mongrel of sorts.

Mr Drewski, you definately belong here so don't even think of not posting your ideas and fab skills on this site. With so many darksiders as we're so called on this site you are definately family. Besides this is one of the best places to hang out.

Update on the Bed build

Well making some progress on the bed, figured I'd strech my fenders wider before finishing off my roll pan and stake pockets. I widened the fronts about 1 1/2" and the backs about 3"
some pics..

Mike, that's some fine work! Now you'll need to lengthen your fender supports. But after widening fenders, that'll be a piece of cake. Jag

Thanks John,
Yes I will, but seeing how I don't have any supports I was planning on building them anyway

Mike, I've been wondering how you were coming on the bed fab. Looks like you're moving right along. Post a picture or two in this thread every now and then, I hate navigating the galleries.(super slow) Are you going to build a roll pan? If so, any ideas on design?

Drew

Will do on the pics.

Yes, I'm going to build my roll pan. I know that I'm frenching in round tail lights and the license plate, but the rest not sure yet. I do have some ideas for the area for meeting to the rears of the fenders. as soon as I'm completed with the fenders I plan on starting the cardboard patterns to see what I can come up with.
I'll keep ya posted.

Really nice looking bed and running boards. How many hours do you guess you have in the fab process?

On the bed itself as you see it, I'd say about 15-20 hrs. The running boards are original, but need some work. The whole truck as it sits............ working on my EIGHTH YEAR...
Someday maybe I'll finish...
