Bed stock for 53-56 is 1175-1350 at HOTROD'S.
New Carlisle Ohio.....not far from N. western Pa. I believe they are from DAN CARPENTER and built here in U.S.
Give Rodney and Denise at Hot Rod trucks a call. They are good people to deal with. Walford you are right he is a Dan Carpenter vendor. Beds made in Norwood, NC Southeast of Charlotte.
Your bed looks great, I actually printed a pic of your bed from earlier, I originally had planed to build my own, now I'm considering buying one just to speed up completion............. but I hate to buy something I can build..
The job you did on your box is certianly pushing me back to building my own..

I've got about $500 total in mine including the tailgate and running boards. Don't ask about the time it took to build them.
Hey Donald,
I'll give him a call, right now I'm unsure of which way I'm going. Just have compare money and time....
thanks

I have to 2nd this. They are great people to work with and my bed included everything down to the rubber pads that go between the frame and bed. Fit perfect. I picked mine up at a car show in Tennessee and saved shipping and crating fees.
Hot Rod's has a nice kit, but I went with Midwest Early Ford's and I have no regrets. I painted it last week and I'm happy with the quality. I also picked it up at a swap meet they attended and saved hundreds on shipping.
Well, I'm going to build my own.....
I got all steel I need (14ga) for everything except, tailgate & rollpan for under $200
pretty hard for me to justify 1k for something I can build for $200.
Just a little more time..

atta boy, you'll have to start a build thread and show us your process. I always enjoy learning from others and seeing the subtile changes they come up with. Looking forward, so keep us posted.
Another vote for Mar-K. I bought bedsides, front panel, rear sill and roll pan from them....excellent quality and made in USA. Heavy guage metal. As already stated, they have an electro-galvanized coating on them which is best removed with a 3m roloc bristle (the green one) on a drill or die-grinder for best paint adhesion. Personal preference will dictate whether you will weld the seams and fill the spot welds for a smoother look. Regards.
Here is a Mar-K bed that I built for a guy in our club. The tailgate is also a Mar-K product albeit a bit modified. The guy bought the Mar-K bed because of the reputation and the free shipping. Since I was the guy who assembled the bed I can best comment on the quality...the bed was virtually an exact copy of the OEM bed. The metal was cut and welded together exactly like Ford did it at the factory...only Mar-K does a better job with their spot welds, each was flush with the surface of the panel and each weld was made at just the right temperature. The metal seemed to be a bit heavier gauge that stock and it is coated in a rust-inhibitor (zinc I believe). The next bed I buy will be a Mar-K.
...I know I've been MIA for a while but...
WHATS UP WITH THAT TAILGATE?!
...I mean... man that sure is one killa tailgate...can ya tell me more?
Please do a nice pictorial thread when you build it because I may attempt to do the same when I get to that point. Looks like it would be a lot of fun. How do you guys make the bends for the bed rails?
