i've heard others were happy with mar-k and i was looking a couple of days ago and they had free shipping (orders over $1000). a complete bed kit, would be over $1000.
here's mar-k, the ford 54 bed, metal parts only is about $1200. would have to add floor of choice and bolts, etc. you may have to reenter vehicle year and click metal bed kit. MAR-K Catalog Home - Select Your Truck
Here is a Mar-K bed that I built for a guy in our club. The tailgate is also a Mar-K product albeit a bit modified. The guy bought the Mar-K bed because of the reputation and the free shipping. Since I was the guy who assembled the bed I can best comment on the quality...the bed was virtually an exact copy of the OEM bed. The metal was cut and welded together exactly like Ford did it at the factory...only Mar-K does a better job with their spot welds, each was flush with the surface of the panel and each weld was made at just the right temperature. The metal seemed to be a bit heavier gauge that stock and it is coated in a rust-inhibitor (zinc I believe). The next bed I buy will be a Mar-K.
just a point to think about. Mine was not primed as it arrived. I did NOT immediately clean, prep and prime.. so I developed surface rust that needed to be dealt with prior to paint..
I bought mine at Sac Vintage Ford. It fit together fine with no modification needed. The wood and slats were included. You will need to indicate if you want stake holes or not. Good luck, Jag

and if you want the little front cover tips closed (didn't know that when I ordered),
and the lower extensions lengthened (if you are doing roll pan)
and maybe the bed roll ends teardrop closed.
and if you are going without chains, have the chain ears left off, and the resulting holes closed.
after a long day at work I find it relaxing working on my truck especially fabricating something from scratch! took a bit of time to build but at the end it cost me around 700 bux
I also enjoy the same.. just different things.... wiring, limited body, chassis, engine, exhaust, suspension.. long straight lines?.. never a specialty!
Looking really good Drewski, looks like you did a lot to your truck since i last seen pictures of it .
Thanks........It really doesn't seem like I've accomplished much. I just spent the whole day today welding up the driver's side running board and molding in the exhaust openings. If I don't stop thinking up new things to customize, I'll never get through. Like you, I do enjoy the fabrication process, and it saves me a few bucks to spend on the things that I have to buy.
