4" vs 5"

4" vs 5"
I got a 5 inch system for my stock truck mainly cause the price was better and I like the thought that bigger is better. But what are the real advantages and disadvantages?

I have a 5 inch exhaust on my truck. The spare tire will fit, although my spare is a 235/85...I dont think anything much bigger will fit. Biggest improvement I saw over stock was lower EGTs when towing. I never had a 4 inch so I cant comment on that. I have a muffler on mine exiting in the stock location, great sound, not loud enough to annoy anyone but can really hear it at WOT if next to a wall or something.
Some people might say the 5 inch is excessive unless you are running a lot of power, but like you i got a better price on the 5 inch.

I'm over 500 hp at the crank & 4" is plenty. I wanted SS and there weren't any real options for 5" in stainless back when I got mine, but I did consider it. 5" exhaust with a 6" tip just looks mean...
