I am officially not a fan of Ford Motor company anymore. They are spineless, cheap, and dont care about us as a consumer. Just wanted to let every single Ford owner on the site to know that. Here's why:
September 2, 2010- Took my '05 Excursion 6.0 into the dealer because the turbo wasn't spooling. They pulled the turbo and "cleaned" it according to Ford service directives. The tech at the dealership said it needed to be replaced, but Ford said to try and clean it first.
September 9, 2010- Got the X back from the dealer, drove it to the house, as I pulled into my neighborhood I noticed the turbo was doing the same thing and not spooling. Called the dealer the next morning and made them aware of the problem, they said they couldn't take it until monday the 13th.
September 13, 2010- Took the X into the dealer, bot the phone call stating the turbo needed to be replaced, and "oh by the way it's not covered under warranty since it expired yesterday on Sunday the 12th..."
WTF!!!!! Called Ford "customer care" said they couldn't do anything and basically I'm out $2400 because they are sorry a$$ m.f.ers!!
All kinds of B.S. from the dealer, not our fault, bla, bla, bla...Heed this warning, if you have turbo troubles with the 6.0, cleaning it does nothing, and Ford knows this. Watch your A$$es because Ford will screw you if they can!!!!
BTW, I own 2 Fords...'02 F250 c/c 7.3, and the 6.0 limited X...since the death of the 7.3 Ford has gone back to the old addage Found On the Roadside Dead!!!!
The turbo is covered under the emissions warranty. This brings in the EPA. In fact there is a number for the EPA to call if you have issues w/ your emissions warranty.
BTW - usually there is somethig that is causing the turbo problems ...... It is typically poor combustion. These turbos are generally pretty reliable unless you are generating a lot of carbon and soot.
This is the same turbo as the Duramax uses, yet they rarely fail on a Dmax. Many times when a customer is told they need a turbo on a Dmax they dont need it. They need a solenoid that the Ford doesnt use. I have NEVER had to clean a turbo on a Dmax, and I service a rather large fleet of them. The same company has 3 6.0 trucks and all have needed cleaning and later replacement. FYI
This is interesting.. Isnt the emissions warranty 7 years?

I'm not familiar with the emissions warranty...how is that different than the powertrain warranty? I bought the X used with ~75k miles, and I use a cetane boost religiously to try and keep it clean. I cant say what the owner before me did or used if anything.
As said earlier - the EPA has oversigt of the emissions warranty. They get involved to ensure that components that impact emissions are repaired so that the air quality can be properly managed. They require repair with ZERO deductible.
Cetane improvement is only one of many things that can affect combustion.
Either you accept what Ford has said or you try contacting the EPA and see if they can help - choice is yours. The EPA may choose not to get involved, but who knows. I guess there is a 3rd option - tell Ford you are taking it to the EPA and see if you get action.
I would think since you took the truck in on the 2nd,for turbo issues. It is documented that the problem was present prior to warranty expiring on the 12th.think they should honor that.
