I am just trying to figure out how the AE will help me if the truck will not start???
Where do I start looking for a PCM???? I swear this truck is going to be the end of me I think.

It helps because you can monitor ICP and duty cycle and see if it is your ICP sensor or you IPR without randomly replacing them.

Yes, it will show you everything while cranking, it really helps diagnosing. Makes you scratch your head why Ford still shotguns diagnosis instead of pin pointing issues.

yeah I know they are fast to come up with the problem or should I say with a problem that might not even be the problem.
I hate being in the situation where you have to rely on someone else to tell you what they think might be wrong and charge you $160 to do it. That is what it cost me for them to say I have a bad HPOP. Then I find out that it is almost unheard of for them to just stop working like that. Yeah I think it is time for an AE.
Talk to you in a little while Clay.

Not sure who is worse Stealership or Doctors office I hate going to either one.

I'm kinda in the same boat as the OP... that's why I bought AE. The things the dealer was saying I'd have to throw parts at can be monitored and diagnosed with AE. Things like harnesses, sensors, and regulators can usually be diagnosed by watching their behavior... provided either you or someone else knows what normal behavior is! I feel bad for Clay... I've been pestering him over and over about stuff. I appreciate it, man!

And BTW, to the OP: don't get frustrated with your truck just yet. The 7.3L is VERY reliable... my truck was the same way and like you, 'round about this time is when sensors, pumps, O-rings, etc. go out. Fix those problems and you should be good to go a long while more.

Well I am pretty livid about now. I get the truck carried back to the house and in front of the garage door and decide to hit the key one more time just to see what happens. Well nothing happens now it wont even crank. So what happened I am thiking when they did there little diagnostic test they went ahead and burned up my starter that I just had replaced a few months ago.
So I called back up there and the guy that took care of it is at lunch how convinent.
Any suggestions????

Are you sure that the battery isn't just dead from them leaving the key on?

Hopefully not the starter, maybe just charge the batteries. Makes me think of the statement in someones sig, THE SINGLE LARGEST THREAT TO A POWERSTROKE ENGINE IS A FORD MECHANIC. If you get it to crank, maybe try un-pluging the ICP to see if it will start. Good luck with it.

Alright I am back and calmed down again. They must have been using a pushbutton start. They justl left one of the wires off the relay. I was about to go get in some trouble and I really dont need any of that. Well my AE is on the way and I have it cranking again so I guess I might put this new ICP on but that is wishfull thinking Im afraid.
Keep the advice coming and any hints/help on getting this AE up and going will be appreciated. Probably wont get here for a few days so I have some time.
thanks again
Joe

still no start with the ICP unhooked did not put the new one on guess that would not make a diffrence right? I unplugged the IPR and it did not look oily but there was some light brown stuff almost the consistency of dried gasket maker or something like that on the end of the connectors. Where the wires actually go into the connector from the truck side looks a little odd. like whatever they used to seal them in has got hot or something and turned kind of gooey (gray in color) if any of that makes since

I'm curious as to what this could be... I'm thinking if it's not oil-related, then it might be the IDM or PCM? I could be wrong... I'm still learning myself. I have heard of the connector for the CPS breaking... I have also heard of a TPS causing a truck to shut down. You had mentioned finicky response, right? When you get AE, you'll be able to watch the voltage off your TPS as well as check to see if the IVS (Idle Validation Switch) is functioning as well. Keep in touch with Clay as you go... he's helped me a TON along the way so I'm hoping my nice order I made will repay him. I'm loving the 6637 and AE, Clay!
