I got a golden retriever puppy when I was single, he lived until 2004. The kids were 2 and 5, so they don't remember him too much. He was a great dog, but we don't want something that large. Not into the little yippee dogs, and what we've seen of pugs, they seem to work out ok for family pets.
I just know that whatever dog THEY get, it will become MY responsibility...
A pug??? That's not a dog, that's a large cat with a smashed face! Come on, man! Get a real dog!!!
Well, I've dodged the bullet for the minute... they wanted to go see the puppies tonight, but I've talked the wife out of it for now. Next opportunity won't come until Friday, so I can think of more reasons to say 'no' by then.
We'd rather adopt an adult dog that needs a good home, but it seems all the shelter has these days are dogs that eat small children for fun, or have been abused and need special care.

Unfortunatly that seems to be the case when you go to a shelter. I feel that we were very lucky when we adopted Annabelle last year from a rescue group. She is a great dog even though she is skiddish around me when I walk towards her, but when my wife picks her up and sets here down next to me she just wants to snuggle.
sounds like he hit too many parked cars. i have a cat bigger than that! stink is really timid but he doesnot run from us. he's 22# cat and doesnot go outside at all. none of my 3 don't set foot outside. the mechanical wildlife will get them. my home is on a corner lot on a busy street. and my yard is small. they are perfectly happy inside. none of my cats want to go out. they are pretty good about that. i'd like to think i trained them pretty well. i've had them since kittens. and its coming on 8 years.
