i have an isue with my speedo. doing 50 mph my speedo swept the gauge all the way past 80 and back allto 50 and it keeps doing that. is ther a loose connection somewere?
Sounds like it needs to be cleaned and lubricated. You might be able to do this yourself but I would recomend pulling the speedo assy out and take it to a shop that specializes in speedometer repair. That way they can also check the calibration and make sure everything is good.
The cable hooks to the tailshaft housing on the drivers side. Its held in place by a clamp that is attached by either a 1/4" or 5/16" bolt, I can't remember which. Remove the bolt and you can pull the cable and driven gear out of the tranny.
The other end of the cable has a quick disconect at the speedo end. Remove the bezel, remove the attaching screws and pull the cluster forward. On the cable end there are two tabs 180 degrees apart. Reach in behind the speedometer and squeeze the tabs together and pull the cable out of the speedometer.
