Hi guys My Explorer speedo works fine for the first bit of riving but when the vehicle gets warm it goes to exactly 50 and stays there. Ideas? Thanks in advance.
Does your Explorer have ABS? I'm trying to recall if the 1996 vehicle speed is sourced from the ABS. If so, the rear ABS sensor has been a common issue on multiple model years of Explorer.
Hi Rod
It does have ABS and also I should have mentioned its 2 wheel drive. I'm having a myriad of electrical issues. Non seem related but it is an old rig. I'll post them one by one I guess.
Thank you for your response.
Terry
Looks like for 1996 the VSS is located at the transmission rather than sourced from the ABS.
Have you tried your cruise control to see if it works and maintains speed? It should be using the same VSS and might help determine if the issue is with the VSS or part of the instrument cluster.
