Mine has been hit or miss for 6 years. I'm pretty sure it's still counting, but sometimes I wonder. When it works, I have 199, 498 (today for about 1 minute.) Seems to be a problem with the LED display and not the actual odometer.
On mine, just prior to actually working, it displays a scrambled sequence for a minute or so, then it works for a while. It always shows the scrambled display first, IF it's going to work.
It's the next thing on the list to diagnose and repair. I actually don't care if it works or not, but it bugs me enough to fix it.
it would not bother me either except it is due for a safety inspection in Sept. I know they will be looking at the mileage. I would hate for it to fail because of this problem
there is a bad solder joint on the board. you can take out the cluster, resolder the joint and repair.. factory defect on many 2000- 2001... iwill post the link.
Thanks for that link. Makes more sense than a loose harness (s), especially on this. It's probably never been apart since it was assembled. Would have taken forever to test every connection.
Ya, my dad's 2000 F150 is starting to have this problem. I beat the dash and it comes back on. Sucks though cause his truck only has 88,000 and you wouldn't think crap like that would be going bad. Test drove an '01 and it had the same issue. Ford POS clusters
