Odometer says "test"

I started my truck a few days ago and the odometer just shows test or all 0000000. What is up with this?

It has been started several time since and still the same. There are no codes in the computer.

Did you try disconnecting the battery?. Sometimes just a simple "re-boot" will solve lots of issues. If this doesn't work, then I would suspect that your instrument cluster module crapped out.

Just an update, I disconnected the batteries and then reconnected and the odometer went back to normal. Big sigh of relief.

Speaking of odometers, how do you get it to read "tac (current RPM)"?

For the '05 this sounds like the 'TEST' mode. Here are the instructions:

Push and hold the Setup and Reset buttons simultaneously and turn the key to the on position. When "Test" appears in the odometer, release the Setup and Reset buttons and you are in the DTC mode. Press reset to cycle through the data fields.

You can start and drive in this mode. The Left button (I think) cycles through about 50 display. It is fun to watch.

The next time the truck is started, the display returns to normal.

Not that this is related or anything, but my '96 t-bird climate-control would go whacky, reporting outside temp of -40 degrees, and going to full HEAT.

It would do this once a year or even less often.

Guess why? I did some research after hearing the news one day, reporting high sun-spot activity.

Turns out, each time my climate control went weird, there was a sun-spot advisory. Interesting, eh? My '97 Cougar with the same system never hiccups at all.

Sometimes a reboot is all that's needed...

Have you looked @ the "Battery Disconnection Relearning" & "Torqushift Shift Relearning Strategy" process?

Here's two sites with the " Relearning" information:
http://www.home.austin.rr.com/sbv1/P...Disconnect.htm

Yeah, solar eruptions do weird things to electronics, but they sure make for pretty aurora borealis.
