If you don't see it laying at the bottom, you will have access to where ever it fell to. Lesson to all who reads this, stuff lint free towels in every hole. lol

Sorry you have to go this route!

Ok. That gives me some comfort. Just some extra work to have to go through.

Would it be better to disconnect the trans cooler lines from the transmission or the radiator?

Your asking someone that can tear up an anvil...

If you can zip tie them out of the way I would remove them from the trans. If not remove them completely. I would probably have them twisted in a knot... lol

Do I need a special tool to remove them from the transmission?

If the fitting is the same as at the radiator then yes. You can get them from the auto parts store.

Please be assured all of us that have pulled the HPOP out have had the same pucker factor with these bolts and we all understand what you are feeling. Do not feel embarrassed that it fell, you are doing the right thing asking all of these questions. There are a bunch of great guys here that are willing and able to help.

Thanks. I feel horrible about this situation and having to ask all these questions. I got a mechanic friend that has worked on powerstroke going to help me though.

To make this a little less work for me and less time sitting
at the computer I am going to put the PDFs here for you.
The Oil Pan R&R PDF is for the 03~04 all the rest is for
the 06~07 years. I hope this helps you. There are options
for the seal tools. I know of one place that rents them but
what they are doing it charging you about 1/2 the price
of the tool as if you were to buy it new. Still when you have
tools that can run in the price range of $300 & $400 range it
helps. They also sell them at discount prices sometimes for
the used ones.
ONE WORD OF WARNING The seal tools are hand tools don't
use the impact wrench on them. Also keep them dry and clean.
I know of a set that was loaned and came back all covered in rust.
The owner was not a happy camper.

Let me know if you need other files.

You're learning more than most especially since you're pulling the rear cover. You're doing a good job and doing it right,

Are you sure the bolt fell BEHIND the last part of the block?? I say this because if it fell in one of the holes that are in front of the gears,,, then removing the rear cover will not give access to the rotating assembly.

Yes, because the pump was in place keeping the bolt from going that way and it was the bolt for the stc fitting.
