I don't care for the sound of straight piped IDI's, I had mine like that for about a day and then put a muffler on it.
Right now I actually have a big Dynomax muffler under the truck (it's actually more like a resonator) and a Moroso spiral flow muffler in each stack. It's not too bad, but it still "thrums" a little much at certain RPM's in fifth gear if you have the rear slider open.
I really don't know how you guys with straight piped stacks can even stand to drive your trucks- even with a muffler mine gave me a headache on the highway, that's why I added the spiral flows.
Straight pipe an IDI, put a load on it and drop off of a decent hill engine braking.
From 3300 RPM down to about 2300 RPM the exhaust rap/cackle will rival any big truck Jake brake.
thats the truth especially when the tc is locked up... like johnboggs, i like to when rolling to a stop take the od out and slightly touch the throttle so the tc locks up, i love the sound myself of the straight piped idi
from tractors to semis don't like mufflers on a diesel. we have straight piped our 400 cummins KW cabover at work and it is something to hear when you jerk 30k to 50k of sawdust out of our pits, make the metal on the side of building shake.
