I have yet to see anyone sell a kit for an 86 f250. are most of these kits just fab'd up or what? I'd love a stack on my truck. p.s in north carolina it IS illegal to have straight piped vehicles, but how much of a difference does it make in a diesel? is it obnoxiously loud or just louder to where you can hear the exhaust over the damn rumble of the engine? any advice on them stacks is greatly appreciated
It is about as loud as a gas big block on a non turbo, but it's much quieter on a turbo truck. I don't know that anyone makes a specific kit for our trucks, so you'll have to piece together your own...
I built my own 3" splitter and mounted it under my homemade flatbed.
Well even if i decide to do a wider straight pipe it'll still have to be fabbed. i dont see anywhere with akit for an 86'
anyone know?
and a straight pipe kit would be even harder, gotta do all the bends and crap.
New headers with bigger pipes?
p.s in north carolina it IS illegal to have straight piped vehicles,
Are you in north carolina? Because you've already answered your question.
Hate to be an ***, but don't do something illegal. It can get you in trouble.
Having said that, before my truck was turboed, I the midsection of the exhaust that connects between the y-pipe and muffler fell off the y-pipe (stupid rust!) It was essentially a straight pipe exiting under the cab. At any point above idle, I couldn't hear myself think, and even though I got home after dark at like 9pm, I rushed out to the parts store and got a connector to fix it because I couldn't deal with the noise.
Thats just my opinion, I've heard mufflers with turbos aren't as necessary, but haven't tried that yet. Before you go through the trouble of fabbing it, disconnect it after the y-pipe and see what it sounds like, and how quickly you'll get pulled over/neighbors hate you.
yea mine are straight. and i am running a turbo. really it isnt that loud the sound is directed mostly up and out. you can carry on a conversation with someone in the cab on the interstate at 2300 rpm, that being said it isnt quiet either, i still prolly wake the neighbors when i get home from work a 1 am... well if i had neighbors id probably wake them. you still can run a muffler under the truck also, my truck had a 40 series flowmaster on it when i bought it, before i turboed it. that may keep you legal
yeah i may end up just running a 4" back to a high flow muffler like something you talked about, out to a 5" tip or somethin, idk. i dont want a ticket. does a 40 series keep it pretty oloud?
