New to this site, but will be purchasing a 2011 SD.
I am not a heavy duty puller. Plan to get a slide in camper of perhaps 2400 lbs and pull a boat that is around 2500. Mostly just a hunt/fish rig that will go from the plains to the high country and only carry/tow the before mentioned items at this point.
I would assume that this truck and the 6.2L gas is plenty of power (if not overkill) for this application and thus not much reason for me to spend the extra $ on diesel (maybe longevity)? My guess is it's actually more than enough, just want to be sure. Always wanted to own a SD and finally will. Current '97 Dodge gasser has 182K on it and should probably go.
Just looking for a few opinions before I place an order.
The 6.2 will serve you well. As far as longevity, your current truck only has 182K on it and you are getting something new. The 6.2 should far outlast that. You could easily hit 300K with care and maintenance.
Buy the gasser and save a ton of money. I have a 2011 F-250 6.2 gasser (my first Super Duty) and am very happy with it. I tow a light sport boat and this truck is the cat's nuts!
Not only is the engine great, but this is one great truck. It rocks.
And to answer the question on the Mopar motor, I can't say anything bad about the truck I've been driving for the past 13 years. No major issues, and that's saying something if you were to look at the service record I racked up (or didn't rack up) over those years. Doing a little research I see that the motor I have in that truck put out a whopping 230hp and 330 ft lbs. so this new one should be quite an improvement.
