I am looking at new trucks and was wondering if the 2011 navigation system in the new 2011 SD has lane assist. Knowing which lanes are going where in large unfamilar junctions is VERY helpful when towing the RV. Can anyone speak to this?
Thanks jeepman - that is a disappointment especially as you say for the cost of the vehicle as well as the cost of the built in navigation systems. You would think they would be every bit as good if not better than the portable units. Oh well...
I have to disagree with jeepman. Unless of course what I think you're talking about is something different. On my 2010 navi when I'm approaching a multiple lane turn off there is an exploded view that automtically comes up and shows which lane to take. Is that lane assist? Recently in the Miami/ Fort Lauderdale area the automatic exploded view (lane assist?) with the large green arrow came in very handy! To see what I'm talking about above you have to have a destination programmed. It won't happen if you're just watching the navi screen without a destination loaded.
Well - maybe I am not calling it the right thing either...
But yes, that is what I ment by lane assist - the GPS will show which lanes are going straight - which lanes are breaking off - and which lane(s) you should be in to keep on course
So the 2011 SD navigation system does have this feature then?
Anyone know what model year this was introduced into the Ford nav systems? I might have to "settle" for a used truck.
Ok then the 2010 factory system definitly has lane assist. One big honkin green arrow that cuts through the spagetti of over passes and off ramps and shows the way. As I mentioned I used it very recently in the Miami area.
For some reason I was thinking about the sensors built in the mirrors that detect a vehicle next to you when your changing lanes that alert you so you don't hit them. Yes I also have that lane assist on my navigation system and I agree it is very handy especially when a main route veers another direction .
