There is a bar that goes from thr drivers side knuckle to the passenger side. It controls all the steering, dont know what it is. One of the ends on it is worn out very bad and welded together from the previouse owner. Its on a 76' four wheel drive. It seems that the joints and the bar they are all one piece. There is only one threaded portion in the centre for alignment. How do you replace these?Or do you have to replace the whole link? I had planned on getting replacement ends that matched the original and machining the bar to accept them.Any direction would be appreciated.
Do you know or have any theory why Ford switched from the 76-77 style linkage to the 78-79 style on 1/2-ton 4x4s? I was thinking about less binding caused by 76/77's different swing arcs of the track bar and center link but would appreciate your thoughts on this.
If your'e going in that direction, consider Ballistic Fabrication for rod ends and thick DOM. IMO, 'might as well go rock-proof if the costs are comparable.
Where the heck did you get the parts manual from? Man that thing looks powerful. I keep seeing you post very useful info that I could really use.
Any idea where I can nab one of these manuals from? I've got a Haynes right now and it shows JACK ALL for specs and exploded views.
Worst $20 I spent, on my truck yet...
Yeah, Haynes and Chilton suck. I have the Parts catalogs on CD. I got mine from a seller on ebay but they're also available from www.hipoparts.com 1973/79 Truck series 100/500 Master Parts and Accessories Catalog
