Knock at idle..

Hey guys I know its a diesel and its going to knock but there is a knock that you can really pick up and wanted to see if there is a way to get rid of it?? I was reading about the intank mods and new fuel pumps but not to sure what to do. Im not loosing any power you can just hear the knock at idle.

I think a regulated return is about the only way to REALLY quiet the knock down. The intank mod will help though.

Honestly I use the other trucks at RRE to compare he noise levels in mine. There were many there with a regulated return, and they knocked just as loudly at idle as mine did prior to installing the FRx. The FRx eliminated the noise from the #8 injector under acceleration though.

How about if you (ahem, me) got a pronounce knock at idle? These mills are good for 500hp right? I'm guessing a above average knock would be a bad injector? Still gotta get it run on AE....

I was going to sugggest this as well, but first to do the tightening of all the rockers and injectors, then look for oil?

Few things that will/may help - Get the air out of the fuel, i.e. H&H and CCK (or Reg Return), and re-torque your rockers.

Just turn your radio up.

Seriously though, I think sounds like this come and go. I notice a slightly louder knocking sound when I get about 4k on my oil. I suspect the anti-foaming agent is beginning to break down but I have no clue really. It just seems like the knocking is more pronounced as the oil gets some miles on it.

Diesel Kleen helps too. I use it every 4 or 5 tanks. I can tell a difference in how the engine idles. It's a bit smoother and the knocking sound is not as noticeable.

You might try Guzzle's website. He has a billet FPR with a stiffer spring. I hear that it sometimes helps with #8 knocking issue. My fuel pressure is 67 psi and I don't hear #8 any more than any other cylinder. So, maybe that will work for you.

Chips and Tuners can increase the knocks in the engine. If you can put the tuner back to stock it will quiet the engine some

If it is the #8 injector it will Sound like it comes from the driver side just behind the wheel. This is common from what i read. I got lucky and got rid of my knock. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...oring-pic.html But if you have another injector knocking there may be other problems. But more than likely it is your #8 and all you can do to try to help is:

Fuel Tank Mods.
CCK
HPX
Shim FPR to 65ish. As Greg mentioned

Mine had another issue And i cured my knock. But any or all of those 4 mods could be the reason my knock is totally gone and may come back at anytime. But crossing my fingers it don't.
