I just took the truck on a road trip to see how it would do and came up with a few bad things. It knocks, loudly, at least after driving for a few hours. If you let it sit and idle the knock will quiet down a good bit and will sometimes go away. A friend said it could be "fuel knock" but have no idea what makes it or what it sounds like. To give you a better idea: it knocks on initial start up in the morning and goes away/gets very quiet once oil pressure comes up, which only takes a second or two. It will then knock during normal driving off and on, but will always knock if I really get on it. After getting on it it'll knock really loudly for a minute or two, then settle down and get quiet again. It also has somewhat low oil pressure, it only comes up to the top of the O in normal no matter what rpm it's at. Any help as to this noise is appreciated, it sounds like a rod knock to me but I'm not familiar with diesels in a hands on way, I just do lots of research.
Edit: it's a '94 idi turbo, auto, 4x4, with 221,000 miles

The electric gauge doesn't really tell much of the story on these engines. You need to get a mechanical gauge on there to see what's up. Have any mods been done to give it any more power? They were really anemic from the factory.
Maybe it's pulling some air with the fuel from somewhere. Does it ever get non-responsive when you push the pedal?
The truck is bone stock right now and seems to run just fine. Like you said it doesn't have much power but that I understand. If it was pulling air in with the fuel wouldn't it have a hard time starting after sitting for a while? It starts right up every time and that's with batteries that are almost dead (on my to do list). The only other problem it has is that it goes through coolant like there's no tomorrow, almost a gallon every 500 miles of freeway driving. The oil looks okay though so I don't think it's mixing.
