Wow Dan, when I'm bored I'll go for a ride or something, maybe I'll start digging into things on my truck . Possibly a nice save from an impending problem....
It's amazing how they can look deteriorated and get that way quickly but still stay sealed. That's one reason that they need new o-rings each time they are pulled because once disturbed, they will never seal again.

Wow -- that's really something! I take it you cleaned up the stick before you took pics... If not, that's the cleanest pulled injector I've ever seen.... LOL
yea.. I got the goo off of it before the pic.. Pulled it out and i wiped it off real quick and seen the oring. Then i ran and grabbed my cell phone for the pic. The damage that Grant mentioned i think, Was that oring folded right over and was ripped. In the picture it looks like the oring edge is mangled.. All cleaned and looks good now.
Had new orings.. So, I already got back together and running. Didn't put the cover back on yet because i wanted to see the oil running. Tomorrow i will finish it up and take for a ride around the neighborhood. Smoke the place out from the oil in the exhaust. . See how that #8 knocks now but probably the same though, but i figured i would try.
I just can't believe it.. Which one to swap with #8 . Einy Miny Moe.. #2. Almost took #4. Glad i pulled #2.. Makes me question all the rest now.
Wished i had more orings. I thought that as well. The truck only has 90k on it. Hardly touched except for me. I only had the two sets and i need the truck thursday night. You think this was installed like this at the factory? Friday installation?
Bobby. Dad has a 2000. No LL injector in his. No Knock what so ever. Mine had a LL injector being it was a 2001. I swapped it out last year but still had a loud knock. I have all 8 the same now. I am on the kick once in a while to get mine sounding like dads. Trying to cure the Knock. Drives me nuts. I will keep digging and maybe after 5 years of playing around i will solve this.. lol.. Seems to be pretty common but if i sit at the gas station and listen to the diesels that come through they don't have it.
I also questioned the cost of the orings. The add looked like it was for one injector worth of orings. Might want to add that in the description
I am getting ready to do a lot of work on my top end. I will have the turbo off for a WW and o-rings. I am going to do the 50cent mod and torque under the covers.
While I have everything down that far, should I pull the injectors and check the o-rings on them?
I have no idea what is involved with pulling the injectors (Guzzle doesn't have pictures of that).
I have 185K miles on my truck. Someone else put the first 175K miles on it, so I don't know what was done to it before.

Pulling the injectors is very easy. Loosen the retainer bolt at the bottom of the injector, slide the retainer up off of the upper retainer bolt.
Then gently pry upwards on the bottom of the retainer to loosen the injector.
If you are pulling all eight, pull the two lowest ones first to let the oil and fuel rails drain out.
Then you only have two cylinders to clear rather than all eight.
I had the driverside injectors out in an hour. But i spent a half hour on that back bolt of the valve cover. Sometimes i get them quick. Sometimes I will spend all day and pulled back muscles.
There was a you tube video on pulling injectors. I can't seem to find it for Bobby..
