I'm trying to find a speedo cable for my '75 F250 4x4 with a C6 and divorced NP205. I've tried the regular online vendors and they show a part for a manual trans but not automatics. So I called and and all I got were people reading from the same catalog I was looking at and no explanation of why the cables are different between the two types of transmissions. The thing is I don't see why there would be a difference between the two since the cable plugs into the t-case and not the trans anyway. Anyone if there really is a difference or of a source that actually lists my application?
According to the Ford parts manual, your truck takes D4TZ-17260-N core and casing.
This is '74-up F250 4WD w/ C6 automatic. Length 118 1/4" long.Type A end
The manual trans. version (D4TZ-17260-C) takes the same style end (type A) but is shorter at 107 5/16" long.
The difference looks like the manual tranny models are about 11" shorter than the auto.

I didn't realize they actually mounted the t-case farther forward in the manual trans trucks. I thought they just varied the length of the intermediate shaft.

Thats what I always thought too. But I can't think of any other reason the cables would be shorter.
Nappa and other parts stores sell a universal cable insert that you cut to length and crimp the end on. I have used several over the years and if the speedo head and cable housing are good they work as well as any. And cheap too.
Well aparently I solved my own problem. I've been checking the classic part suppliers thinking it was an obsolete specialty part but my local Kragen just told me they could have it in the morning. Strange that the specialty vendors don't even list it, making me think that particular one must be out of production, while the big chain store came through.
I bought mine though National parts Depot and it was the 118" one.. I actually don't use it anymore though since I changed my dash a bit and use an electronic speedometer.
