Help, someone tried to rip off my BroncoII and fouled up the key switch to the point that normal removal does not work, can anyone suggest a way to remove the switch to replace it ? I'm having great difficulty any help would be appreciated
You need to replace the lock cylinder. As long as you can turn the key to run, it's a very simple job.
Remove the plastic column shroud & look for a hole in the under side of the column & turn the key to run. Shove a small screwdriver/drill bit/ whatever into the hole & shove the spring loaded pin out of the way. Pull the lock cylinder out.
Line up the new lock cylinder & shove it in until it clicks into position. Done deal.
Maybe talk to a locksmith, to see if he can pull the cylinder out. Otherwise, I think you have to pull the whole housing, but I've never had to do it. Sorry you're having this problem. People can be a$$e$.
Good luck.
I've heard of guys drilling the cylinder out. Not something that i'd want to try, but it's another option. I'd go daughtersbronco & call an automotive locksmith.
It is possible that the position of the wheel that is jamming the cylinder innards from turning to the run position. If the jerk was working the wheel it may be holding it from movement. Have you taken the covering off the steering column yet? You may be able to see if there is any movement on the actual ignition switch linkage.
thanks , I never thought that the wheel might have been turned ,I'll go and check that right now . all the help is great this is a great site thanks again
