Sas Stall!

Well i have been putting back the money for awhile so that i could buy the kit that bronco grave yard offers to make the solid axle swap a direct bolt in. However to my horror i find out that Fabritech which was the manufacter of the kit went out of business about six months ago. I am not at all confident in my mechanical ablities to attempt this on my own. However I have to do something. I need new ball joints, Tie rod ends, Camber bushing and god knows whatever else on the current Twin traction beam setup and rather than replace all that and only have a stock setup i would rather go the SAS route. So do any of you guys know anywhere else that has a kit? or is it easier to find everything i need and less expensive than the 3000 kit? thanks for the help.

What year is the truck? It's more or less a bolt on deal with the 80-97 trucks (except maybe the trac bar mount will need to be welded on) if you go with a radius arm setup. There is a write-up in the tech thread by 9.ford.5 for this type of thing. A 3000 dollar kit is ridiculous!! I'd say it could be done for way less than 1000, probably even less than 500 if you find the right deals. Look for a 78/79 Bronco/F150 and all your parts are right there on it waiting to be taken. Get the axle, radius arms, radius arm brackets from the frame, coil buckets, coils, trac bar, tie rod, drag link.. and that should be pretty much it. Recommended is using DOM/chromo tube for your steering links with rod ends/heim joints, or upgrading to one ton TREs. I'm very curious as to what was in that kit for it to cost 3k!

Broncograve yard is still advertising it in their catalogs. the kit required you to go to a 6inch lift or bigger. personaly i wanted a 4inch lift with 33x12.5R15 tires. thanks for the input i will start searching for one.

what year is the truck? You will either need to clearance the crossmember, build a new one, or go to a certain lfit height - not sure on the details, don't own that year truck if it's 80-96

The truck is a 1994 Ford F150 Supercab 4x4. it is my daily driver i don't really go hard core offroading but my parents live so far back into this wooded area that its hard to get to in the winter time. there are a few trails i can go up and i like to go campin at those places. here is my delima my truck's entire front suspension is shot and the rear needs an axle replaced on the passenger side. i was going to rebuilt it back to stock but can't justify the cost and still have just stock performance. so i thought my only option was to go the Solid Axle route.

This is a picture of my truck. since i took the pictures i have fixed the exhaust droop and taken off the step rails. I also put a front bumper back on untill the truck is repainted anything but white.

What on the front suspension is shot? There is only 4 bushings and a set of springs/shocks that can go bad. For a DD, replacing the shot stuff and regearing it for 33s would be great plenty. Wile your at it, put a locker or LS in the rear and possibly the front. The pickup in my signature is my DD, I rebuilt the axles with 4.56s and put a 1.5 inch spacer under the front springs, its running 33s on it. If you are only using the 4wheel drive from time to time, and 33s are the biggest you are going, that TTB will be fine in the front.

Well that's all easy stuff, and shouldn't cost very much. A lot less work and $ to replace that stuff than swap a solid axle in and have to replace the same things on that.

Shot tie rods and ball joints is a horrible reason for a sas.

if you leave them at stock or close to stock hight they are easy to keep them in good order.. the only bushings that i have had to replace on my TTB in 145,000 miles is the radius arm bushings, same would have to be done on a strait axle ...

Just sayin he said mostly a DD, TTB is fine for that with some 33s on it....
