460 vs. 454
Even the Cummins which arguably has the most stock low end torque of a light duty truck engine, makes its peak torque at about 1600 rpm,it shares certain torque characteristics with other inline 6 engines, such as the Chevy 292 and the Ford 300,both produce there peak torque at lower rpm's than v8's do......454,460,440,and the like all produce there peak torque at or above 2000 rpm.......You gotta quit sniffing those fumes 6.6liter,they can cause brain damage
you are wrong as istated earlier 460 peak torque at 960 we dynoed my freinds 460 and thats wut she pulled....and shes been rebuilt with stock ford parts since it burned last year and ucmmins is a light truck engine u said?!?!and he bloody says i sniff fumes...
Spark plugs, not smark plugs! you dont save mileage you gain or lose mileage, and if the so called "Cummins" mechanic told you that the cylinders fired 3 at a time and YOU believed him,as asked before were you given opportunities to purchase certain real estate items, such as bridges?
1 ton and lighter trucks are classified as light duty, while above that they are in the medium-duty and higher classes,so the Cummins,Duramax, and Powerstroke diesels are available in what is still referred to as light duty....Your Dyno results are similar to your other statements, wrong!
The Cummins IS a typical in-line six, in that it fires every 120 degrees. If it didn't, it would vibrate and shake and wouldn't idle worth a crap.
Where do you get the idea that it fires "..3 ALMOST at once..."???
Have you ever seen the inside on any engine?
As for the V8 comment, just general additional info, something you seem short of.

Ship Boy has a certain appeal, this guy is how do you say it? Suffice it to say that our man Ship Boy has a style and personality about himself,a kind of unpredictability that's refreshing in its own way..........6.6Liter is quite predictable, and i'll let you all be the judge of whether that would predictably bad or good..........
Ahem... My 6.6Liter impression.... "I ain predicable you dofus im jus as smat as the next guys heer anyway im sick of this bs im goin to hawl som hay wit my 400 ill show yo guy what tork is"
SO,6.6Liter,are you sure your not confusing the 402 big block with the 400 small block? for truck app's i see the 402 coming available around 1970,while the 400 small block appears(again in truck app's at least) as first available in 1975.....this makes sense since the manufacturers were trying to meet stricter emissions standards, while also improving fuel economy and reducing production costs,so it makes sense they would choose to get every last cube out of small blocks, while probably trying to phase out big blocks in all but the heavier GVW ratings, probably 6200 lbs and above.... at this time, all 3 of the "big guys" were phasing out older designs, especially big blocks.
Ford was swithching over from its FE series to the 351/400M engines,Dodge was getting rid of the 440 in favor of 318/360's,and for most apps,GM was getting rid of the 454,and replacing it with 400 and smaller CID small blocks........After you get back in from your hay cutting, please clarify!

Dave, im going to have to say that was a low blow! To Ship Boy! Comparing Ship Boys posts, which while frequently somewhat inflammatory, were almost universally entertaining,to 6.6liters.........Wait a minute,i may have just thought about something....6.6 may be the younger, less seasoned version of Ship Boy,who hasnt gotten the wisdom that Ship Boy has achieved by virtue of age and maturity.
First car i ever owned was a 1975 Chevy Monte Carlo w/ a 454 engine....if i recall, with all the Ca. emissions of the time,it was rated at about 205 or 210 Hp,which while pretty lackluster by either pre-emissions days,or certainly by todays standards, wasnt bad considering that a 1975 350 probably was rated at about 160 Hp.....As is typical of a first car, especially for an 18 or 19 year old,i beat it mercilessly! It was geared really tall for the freeway,i think it had either 3.00 or 3.23 diff gearing, and its previous owner had stuck a shift kit in its Turbo400 tranny. If i floored it at about 25mph,it would downshift all the way down to 1st gear, and if held to the floor it would stay in 1st til about 55mph,before it would upshift to second, and then nearly 90 before upshifting to third! Im not sure what the 454's redline was,and i didnt have a tach installed on it,but i cant imagine the engine was happy with my treatment of it.....i didnt manage to blow the engine up,but by the time i got rid of it,it wasnt in good shape,it had lost most of its power, and was burning a bunch of oil.
