first time on here...i am restoring a 1948 f5 cab over...complete cab off, frame sand blast...just looking for ideas for the flat bed...it is 12'....everything else seems to be fixable...any pics anywhere to look at...thank you
Doug, do you have the flatbed to start with, or are you having to build it from scratch? If you have the metal framework, it will make the job a lot easier. Here is a link that has the basic dimensions http://fatfenderedtrucks.com/scans/flatbed_f4_f5_f6.jpg
and here is another with the measurements. 1948-52 ford scrip flatbed
Note that this is for a 9' bed so you have to adjust for the size.
I am redoing a 1950 F5 that originally had a 12' bed, but it is long gone. When I got the truck, it had a very nice 14' steel bed (as seen in my avatar), but I felt that it was way too big. At present, the 14' is laying in the yard and listed for sale. I have a load of oak that I need to pick up from the sawmill next week and sticker to dry over the summer. I have a woodshop at home so the winter project for myself and the wife will be the flatbed. I don't have all the metal working access, so the entire bed will be built out of wood. I have designed my own plans for the bed.
