Let me put it this way, part of the reason I got rid of my 2000 ext. cab was because my kids (who were <12 at the time) knees were jamming into the back of mine and my wife's front seat. For hauling people (you care about, lol), nothing beats the CC.
I have a 2006 SuperCab F250. I'm going to second the above opinion. My wife and youngest son are both about 5'6". My wife had to slide the front passenger seat forward until her knees were only a few inches from the glove box so that my son's knees wouldn't be up against her seatback.
I think the area behind the front seats is for putting stuff, and the dog.
Like everyone else here, I got a crew cab and am glad I did. When I was truck shopping, I wanted an extended cab/long bed F250. But it only took a 10-second test-fit to see that wasn't gonna happen. I had my 9 year old son sit in the back of an extended cab on a lot, and his knees touched the back of the front seat. From then on I only looked at crew cabs and now that I've owned one for a few years, I'm glad I did.
I like my extended cab.....just two of us.....but enough room for the occasional use for friends or family on short trips. If I was hauling people in the back seat regularly, it would not be fun. I have always said I don't buy a vehicle for the back seat......at least since I moved out of my pa rents house many years ago....lol
i have a nine year old daughter and a seven year old boy and both of their knees hit the front seats on my 2004 ext cab. I absolutely HATE my ext cab, doors rattle all the time, they flex all the time from body movement because of lack of pillar in the middle. Absolutely no room at all, i put two shotguns one gun bag and my poor GSP in the back seat and he cant even walk in a circle on the seat because there is NO ROOM. If we go hunting everything must be put in the bed and when you try to tell two grown men to sit in the back you get that look of WHAT? When i can afford a new truck it will most defiantly be a crew cab long bed. Lets not get started on the short bed....
If it is going to be your family vehicle (the one you take when everyone is going), get the crew cab. Rarely do I have anyone in my back seat. I have been back there for a 3 hour trip once. Wife drove, her friend rode shotgun, I sat in the back with the dog. It is do-able, but I wouldn't want to do it often.
Usually it's just me and the girlfriend in my truck... and sometimes the dog. My extended cab is OK for now, but my next truck is definitely gonna be a CC.
it sucks when you cant even fit a box from cabelas with your brand new hunting waders in the back seat until you move the seat ALL the way up, then turn the box sideways to get it in the back......
yea its funny when i open the passenger door and then i open the passenger side ext cab door. i tell him up and he looks at me turns his head and then tries to get into the front seat! Its bad when your dog knows the back seat is horrible.....
Take it from me. I wanted a crew ca because my dad had one so I knew how much I liked it. I settled for a ext cab and have kicked myself everyday since. Well worth it.
