I was looking at a ding i have on my hood today and came to the realization that it's an aluminum hood. Has anyone ever thought of stripping the paint and polishing it out to look like chrome? I wonder if it would blind myself or everyone else, Wadda ya'll think?
I would guess that the hood would blind the **** out of you but it might look kinda sweet. If ya do end up doing it worse thing you'll have to do is wear some shades while ya drive which i do when its sunny already. You might have to get some high end shades but i think it'd be cool to chrome the hood
I live in a small town so i checked with the local smokey and he said that there's nothing he can think of that would be unlawful except being blinded by it while driving, Still debating but if i do it I'll definatly post some pics.
Consider this; The hood is very thin metal, and polishing will cause a good deal of heat. I would think it would likely cause the hood to warp. A friend who does body work said he prefers replacing steel hoods due to the warping that occurs with sanding the hoods for painting.
How about a can of good paint stripper, and then a clear coat? I recently stripped the lower unit on my Evinrude 150. Bought a jug of brush on stripper from Home Depot, and it wasnt much stronger than camel spit. Then tried an aerosol can of stripper from Wally World, and it took 3 layers off in 2 sessions. then a good lacquer primer, light sanding, and a can of Evinrude Blue. Looks great. Oh, this was after an $1100 new lower unit that needed a color change.
