Hi, my 2006 F250's emblems are pealing bad and I want to strip the black paint off the chrome for a all chrome emblem look. My friend and I tried using acetone and brake cleaner and both of them did not remove the rest of the black paint inside the emblems...Does anyone know what I can use to strip these emblems to all chrome? Thanks
Grey if your truck is covered under warranty the flaking emblems will be replaced by your dealer. Many of us on this forum have had to go that route. Since replaced I have had no issues. I believe some of the guys wereusing acetone but I'm not 100%. Try doing a search or eventually someone may confirm or deny what I said.
It can be a complete pain to remove the badges but it can be done. I just used masking tape and taped everything off real good. Then threw some extra towels around. I had no problems with acetone on my old badges.
yes they have a big problem with badges peeling. they will replace them under warrant as stated before, but you're just going to get the same crap put back on. if you remove your badges, use fishing line and use a sawing motion to cut through the adhesive tape behind them. then a mild adhesive remover to get what doesn't come off. it's really not a bad job to do.
Just plan on getting alot of fishing line. I went through a ton of 40lbs test line getting mine off. You can still have problems with F350 badges with the two alignment pins. You might need a small screwdriver to help peal them up. I also heated them up with a heat gun....seemed to help alittle.
Before you take them off I would tape up the top and side of the badge...making a 90 corner with the tape. That way it is alot easier mounting them too. You can just line them up with the edges of the tape.
I had to replace 2 of my 3 emblems on my 06 F250 within 2 months of buying it. Tailgate and Drivers Side fender flaked so I had Ford replace them, I havent had any trouble with the new ones or the remaining passenger side emblem.
I upgraded all of mine to the new emblems. I used the fishing line trick and it worked great. A little goo gone and some elbow grease and it took me about an hour to replace all 3.

Replacing the badges is the way to go and it's easy to do. Here's how I did mine. Get a corner up and start pulling carefully. It will come off. The foam tape will be left on the paint. Start in the center and pull the tape so it stretches off the paint. If you try to pull at a 90 deg angle, the tape will just keep ripping and breaking. If you stretch it off the paint there won't be any tape left. Clean and reapply the new emblem. With the alignment pins it doesn't get any easier. My new ones haven't shown any signs of flakeing Supposedly they changed how they applied the clear on the grill emblem and the paint on the side and tailgate emblems.
