Welcome to the 21st century. Things change and normally do improve, but not always for the better. Really depends on the individual's habits and if accepting the change is possible.
Oh its not that at all....i'm fine with it.....actually pretty psyched I just saved 25 bucks on a filter......I"m just wondering if anyone knows what year it changed....
I would take the view that if you're in there changing fluid after a specific interval, especially if you do some towing, might as well change the filter for a mere $25. Can't remember last time i took a bath and put back on the old underwear...same thing in my book. :-)
So.....since when does ford specify that unless the fluid is contaminated the tranny filter doesn't need to be changed with a fluid change???
I checked the ford service manual and it confirms this....
Ryan, why did you start this?
Standby for another heated debate about flush or not to flush.
My 2010 Focus states to change the fluid and change the filter at 150,000 miles and to continually check the fluid level throughout the life of the system.
My '04 Expedition states this in the maintenance guide every 30,000 miles:
"change atf / transaxle fluid on all vehicles equipped with AX4S,4F5ON,4R100,4F27E. Inspect atf fluid level on all other vehicles,if equipped with dipstick. CONSULT YOUR DEALER FOR YOUR PARTICULAR REQUIREMENTS."
It didn't say a word about filter changes, dropping the pan and or draining the t-converter.
I'm not going to start a flush/not flush debate......I don't care....i'm not flushing......i'm just draining the pan and refilling........And if its good enough for the ford service manual....its good enough for me....
Just had my 90,000 mile service done at my local dealer and they did a flush and fill on the tranny.
I quized them about flushing versus drain and fill, draining and replacing the filter and they recommended the flush and fill. I followed their recommendations.
I have an extended warranty, hopefully I don't have to use it.
Ryan, I changed my fluid and filter at 42,000 and found that magnet had a lot of metal build up on it. I did a second change around 70,000 and had a lesser amount. I, also went to a B&M aluminum pan which allows for a less messy change. The filter did not look that bad on the second change. I change fluid on an E350 S/D van with 105,000 miles and it did not look any worse than mine at 42,000. I do pull trailers occasionally though whereas the van did not. It may be a matter of preference. I like to see whats in the pan myself.
