i have a 1992 e150 conversion van and i would like to change tranny fluid and filter. when i remove the pan how much fluid should i expect to replace. and is that a sufficent enough fluid change?
Thanks
Mike
Not sure what tranny you have, but if it is an E4OD (electronic button to cut out the OD), older ones had a torque converter drain (look for a 2 inch rubber plug on bottom of bell housing, then tick starter until you see plug and gently should be able to move plug into center with a screwdriver gently prying). If you drain the torque converter soon after running it you may get up to two gallons out. I got 5 quarts out, but had it shut down for over half an hour before I drained it. I drained the converter, then syphoned about a gallon out the dipstick tube, then ran it two minutes and redrained the converter. Total I got out was a bit over 3 gallons. If you are dropping the pan, then first run it to get it warmed up (or hot but beware it can get pretty hot), drain the converter and then drop the pan. You should not need to drain the converter twice like I did (I did not drop the pan as a filter had been installed just 22K ago). I refilled with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF ($5 at Autozone).
