I purchased a Carter YF 1 barrel carb from a junk yard a couple of weeks ago to do a Duraspark conversion on my 86 F-150 I-6 and I need to know if I got the right carb. I also purchased a rebuild kit and went through the whole thing so its ready to go. It is a manual choke carb.
I just did the same thing to my 85, I ended up buying a new (not rebuilt) YF carb off of ebay for $160.00. Its made by Rally and has worked very well for me so far. I also looked at the Holly Carburetor web site, they have a carburetor look up page. I think the model you want is the 64-1126 (which is the same one I bought from Rally). It doesn't look like the same one you have. I don't see why the carb you already have wouldn't work though as long as it bolts to your manifold and the air cleaner fits right.
I'm sure my air cleaner will not work. I just saw Carter YF on the side of the carb and said to myself, there you go! I haven't even taken the old one off my truck yet, so I may end up buying one...
Alright, looks like I'm on my way to the parts counter. It is not the right carb. That is what you get for not doing your homework. I don't know what it fitsbut so far I'm out $20 bucks. Looks like the purchase of a reman will do just fine.
Paul 270, did the one you got off of Ebay have an electric choke? I'm looking at the photo of one, but it doesn't have the wire for the electric choke?
Nice Photos! I've ordered a non-feedback carb because I think it will improve my fuel mileage over the old feedback unit. Plus, with doing the duraspark upgrade, I hope to have a more reliable rig from day to day. I'll shoot a few when the new one shows up.
Sorry it took me so long to reply. No, the carb I bought on ebay did not have an electric choke, it is climatic but that small fabric covered steel tube coming out of your exhaust manifold will screw into your new carb and operate your climatic choke. I think thats the way its supposed to work, it seems to be right. I wonder if you could put the electric choke from your old carb onto your new carb?.... that would be nice.
It would be nice. The tube coming from my manifold broke off so unfortunately I can't run it back to the manifold. I'm going to try to get it back over the hole, and maybe even round out the old hole a little so the tube may slide in.
