My pitman arm is loose on my 78 150 4x4. It is the splines on the shaft or the pitman arm it self. The nut is tight, but it still slops. Any ideas on a good, but quick fix?
Sounds like the arm for sure is worn, worse it may have ruined the splines on the steering gear shaft.
On a side note. Anyone know off hand if the pitman arm fits on only one way or can you move it around to center the steering wheel/lock to lock turns? Mine is a 1/2 ton.

The pitman arm is aligned with the internal centering mechanism in the power steering unit. It should not be moved. If the steering is not centered lock-lock there is another problem which should be repaired.
Thanks also from me. The correct fix for me would probable be to reassemble the toe end collor adjuster in a different orientation. i.e. screw it on one side a way before starting the other.
