Run an adjustable cable setup, like you can get for mustangs

Okie,
Did your ZF have a hydraulic clutch to start with?
I am guessing not.
Does the throwout arm go forward or back?
What is the stroke on the arm required?
What is the stroke on your existing slave cylinder?
Is it on the starter side of the motor or not?
Your motor/tranny bolts are the ideal place to bolt up your slave cylinder bracket.
Your clutch pedal should have pushed some linkage forward through the firewall. If so, this is a good start for mounting the clutch master cylinder.
Insure that there is no deflection in the firewall where you bolt the master cylinder up. If there is, you'll have to reinforce the fire wall. I would plan on that now.
Give me some feed back we'll go from there.

The ZF is hydraulic. The original was mechanical. I am going to be doing the same thing shortly on my '78 project.

It appears to me that what will have to happen is to take a clutch master and mount it inboard to the brake master. It is going to be tight to impossible to mount it where Ford does on the '80+ trucks. Theory right now is to take the lever on the pedal assembly, turn it 90*(vertical), figure out proper length, and either weld or run 1/4 plate between firewall and pedal assembly to use as a back mount for clutch slave.

I am probably 1-2 months from skinning this cat. It depends on how fast I build fences and barns.

Someone here posted a few months ago they had a ZF5 speed in a 78/79 with the stock mechanical clutch linkage hooked in place of the slave cylinder on trans.
